AloxiTec have created novel packaging material which can extend the shelf life and maintain the freshness of produce without refrigeration or other chemical intervention.

The material is made from a flexible ceramic which absorbs any airborne chemicals in the vicinity of fresh produce to effectively stop ripening and decay at room temperature. It is a solid, flexible and light sheet which can be applied to various types of existing packaging. The first prototype testing indicated the ability to keep bananas and apples fresh for over 48 and 83 days respectively and doubled the shelf-life of cherries.
