We haven't been able to keep quiet about Demo Day, and for good reason – it's our biggest day of the year! At this year's event we’ll see pitches from our nine ON Accelerate teams. To give you a taste of what you can expect on the day, we've written up a sneak peak of the technology these ground-breaking teams are developing!

Adaptive Eggs

Adaptive Eggs identifies male chicken eggs when they are laid, meaning the eggs can be repurposed instead of incubated. This avoids the costly and undesirable practice of culling day old male chicks in the egg laying industry. The Adaptive Eggs product will save environmental and economic costs and has the potential to convert what was once a waste stream of unneeded livestock into higher value products. The Adaptive Eggs technology will free up billions of eggs for food, industrial uses, and even for human influenza vaccine production. This will improve the sustainability, profitability and reputation of the poultry industry.

Advanced Genetic Diagnostics

It’s estimated that in 2019 over 15,000 Australians will be diagnosed with melanoma and 1,725 will die from it. Accurate analysis of the risk of the cancer is critical for proper treatment. Advanced Genetic Tests (AGT) is bringing in a new era of personalised medicine, with a test that can analyse DNA samples to determine the risk of a patient’s melanoma which out-performs the current “gold standard” test. In the future, the same technology could also be used to determine a patient’s risk of developing a range of other diseases, including heart disease, cancer and diabetes.

Bee Innovative

If you love coffee, chocolate or one of the hundred other crops that rely on bees for pollination, this one is for you. Bee Innovative’s mission is to increase food production globally without having to use any extra land or water. Their solution is the bee’s knees – they use a radar-like sensor for bees that identifies and tracks the insects as they busily pollinate crops. This information is sent in real-time to an app for farmers so that they can identify crops that aren’t getting pollinated and address the problem before it leads to lower yields.


Have you picked up a piece of fruit recently without crushing or dropping it? While this seems like a simple task for humans, it’s very difficult for robots. This is because we have something they don’t – a sense of touch. Contactile is bringing robots into the future by developing a tactile sensor that gives robots the sensory advantages of a human hand without the human physical limitations of size, strength, environment and fatigue. The Contactile mission is to build robots that surpass human dexterity – so they can do all the jobs that people can’t or don’t want to do.

Inova Medical

If you have a sensitive stomach, this isn’t the team for you. While abscesses may seem like nothing more than big pimples, the standard treatment is a lot more complicated than giving it a squeeze in your bathroom. If you were to get an abscess, the current treatment requires general anaesthetic, surgical incision and drainage, and a 1-2 day hospital stay. The Inova Medical team have developed a single-use disposable device that will allow doctors to shift the treatment of abscesses out of the theatre and into the clinic, eliminating theatre time, days in hospital, and the need for general anaesthetic.


Every time you drive over a bridge you’re trusting that the engineer that built it knew what they were doing. As education moves more and more online, it’s now harder than ever to ensure that the results from online assessments – such as structural engineering exams – were achieved by the student alone, without outside help. IRIS is addressing this with a software solution for academic institutions that deters students from cheating, helps detect it when it happens, and gives institutions evidence that the student obtaining the qualification genuinely earned it.

MGA Thermal

Solar generated electricity is now widely available, but renewable energy is a fleeting thing; it’s spent as soon as it’s earned. Renewable energy generation and energy demand are not synchronised. MGA Thermal has developed a new way of storing energy from the sun in a compact, safe and low cost manner through a highly efficient heat battery. This heat, collected from concentrated solar thermal arrays, can be converted to electricity when the sun goes down using a steam turbine. With this new method of storing energy, MGA Thermal will enable 24/7 generation of reliable electricity from renewable sources.

N1 Analytics

The future is data driven, but finding the balance between using data to its full potential while keeping it safe is a challenge faced by many companies. N1 Analytics is using advanced cryptographic engineering to allow companies to use external data as well as monetise their own without anybody revealing their data to anyone else. N1 Analytics envisions a world where we can harvest all the benefits of data while respecting the individual’s right to privacy at the same time.

Parts Per Billion

If you have a food allergy you’re required to put a lot of trust into food manufacturers that when they say products are free of allergens, it’s actually true. The problem with this is the food supply chain moves much faster than current laboratory tests, meaning that products can end up on shelves up to two weeks before manufacturers can guarantee that they’re safe. Parts Per Billion (PPB) has developed a sensor that’s the same size as your average esky that can deliver these same results in minutes, meaning manufacturers can know for certain that their products are safe for consumption.
