Have you ever wished, in times of ill-health, that you could see your doctor without leaving your bed? Well now that could be a reality, thanks to a recent partnership between Coviu and Healthkit that will equip over 15,000 Australian health practitioners with video consultation technology.
Coviu, a CSIRO Data61 start-up that recently graduated from CSIRO’s ON accelerator, is behind the breakthrough telehealth technology that offers one of the most secure video conferencing services in the world. The browser-based platform is fully encrypted end-to-end and allows for in-browser video conferencing plus document exchange such as medical imaging.
Teamed with HealthKit's practice management software that includes an integrated directory and portal for patients, the service makes healthcare efficient, effective and accessible.
Coviu's technology is a game-changer for the health industry in Australia, providing an alternative means of access to critical health services for those who face logistical difficulties reaching the doctor, such as the elderly, people with disabilities, and those in rural or remote areas. The technology also delivers time and cost efficiencies for patients and health professionals alike, enabling services such as specialist referrals or prescription renewals to be offered without the need for an in-person appointment.
"Coviu's goal is to be a spun-out entity in the near future, and to enable all professional services with video consultation functionality, to better service their customers" Coviu Project Director and Co-Founder, Dr Silvia Pfeiffer said. "Being part of the ON Accelerate program helped us to move forward towards that goal, with greater clarity and at a faster speed than we had previously achieved."
The ON accelerator experience helped the team to hone their pitching and digital marketing skills, both of which they'll be doing a lot more of in the future as Coviu continues to grow from strength to strength.
